Presentation Title: History of Feminist Literature: A Bitmoji Virtual Library
Presenter(s): Irene Miller, School of Information
Abstract: The “History of Feminist Literature: A Bitmoji Virtual Library” was designed to create an informative and engaging guide to feminist literature as a supplement to a high school or college-level introduction to modern history or literature course. Each wave of feminism has a room showcasing three authors with their Wikipedia biography, a selection from one of their books, and a podcast episode discussing the author and their book. The Bitmoji Virtual Library format allows students to explore a curated collection of materials in a setting which is familiar to them as a source of information: a library. The strengths of a visual portal to a curated collection of materials are interactivity, accessibility, and personalization. This virtual library was created as the final project for INFO 210 (Reference and Information Services) and was a fascinating opportunity to merge information I am passionate about with an interactive method of sharing information. Through the process of creating this virtual library, I was able to apply skills learned in this course as well as gain experience working with an unfamiliar format.
