In early November, over 200 attendees are anticipated to descend on the Crowne Plaza Cabana in Palo Alto to take part in the 40th Annual TEI-SJSU High Tech Tax Institute. The nationally recognized two-day event focuses on high tech tax matters that appeal to a broad spectrum of attendees, including numerous tech companies, CPA and tax firms, as well as the IRS.
Convening November 4-5, 2024, and sponsored by the Master of Science in Taxation program (MST) at San José State University, it will consist of deep learning on the latest tax issues and rules for high tech companies, including M&A, R&D, executive compensation, Pillar 2, generative AI uses, federal tax controversy and more.
Special guest speakers that will take the stage are IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel and Dave Kautter, former Assistant Secretary of Tax Policy at Treasury. Organized by the Silicon Valley Tax Executive Institute (TEI) Chapter and the MST program at SJSU, the event promises to be an excellent networking opportunity. Additionally, a reception will be held on the first day in honor of the 40th anniversary.
“This institute was created over 40 years ago when members of TEI and the IRS asked the Department of Accounting & Finance to help organize a learning event for the combined group,” says Annette Nellen, professor and director of the MST Program at SJSU in the Lucas College and Graduate School of Business. While reflecting on the conference’s history, she noted that the inaugural event started as a one-day event and grew into a two-day conference focused on tax matters relevant to tech companies.
According to Nellen, who has been the director of the MST program for nearly 20 years, speakers at this year’s event and many of the tax experts in attendance are alumni of the MST program at SJSU. All individuals in the tax field are encouraged to attend this highly impactful two-day institute and help celebrate this milestone event.
