On Dec. 20, 97 students from San José State University’s College of Applied Sciences and Arts Health Science and Recreation department celebrated the completion of their degrees at their fall convocation ceremony at Morris Dailey Auditorium. During the ceremony, the students donned black gowns and the olive green tassels that signify they received their degree from the College of Applied Sciences and Arts. Dr. Martin Fenstersheib, the health officer for Santa Clara County, addressed the graduating students as the keynote speaker. Fenstersheib works closely with the Santa Clara County Public Health Department, part of the Santa Clara Valley Health & Hospital System. College of Applied Sciences and Arts Dean Charles C. Bullock also spoke t the crowd along with interim chair Jack Wall. Many alumni of the Health Science and Recreation department have gone on to work in city or county government as well as for nonprofits that support healthy communities.
