Advertising professor to be featured in CISCO marketing

John Delacruz, an assistant professor of advertising in the College of Applied Sciences and Arts School of Journalism and Mass Communications at San José State University, will be on the other side of the marketing business in October when a film crew from Cisco plans to record how he has been using the company’s telepresence equipment.

Cisco creates videos to show innovative uses of their technology, including the business-to-business technology that is available in the School of Journalism and Mass Communications as well as other departments on campus. Delacruz informed JMC Director Robert Rucker of the effort last week. Delacruz said the Cisco crew is expected to interview him on Oct. 30, when he has plans to connect his classroom to an office in London for a discussion with a senior copywriter with a digital creative agency using the telepresence equipment in Dwight Bentel Hall.

The College of Applied Sciences and Arts has five spaces that are set up to use telepresence equipment with such programs as webex. The spaces include conference rooms and classrooms. The equipment has been used to connect faculty and administrators with colleagues in Afghanistan, Viet Nam, London and other far-flung locations. The Dean’s Office has plans to coordinate more training for faculty and staff on the equipment later in the fall semester.
