Dr. Ahmed Hambaba

Dr. Ahmed Hambaba, the Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering Associate Dean of Graduate and Extended Studies, has received an IBM Faculty Award for $40,000 for his work in innovation design.

The IBM awards are highly competitive, with a requirement that an IBM employee nominate potential faculty to submit a proposal and with the employee agreeing to serve as a liaison for collaboration. IBM selects recipients based on their ability to foster collaboration between university researchers and employees in IBM research, development and services organizations as well as promote courseware and curriculum innovation to stimulate growth in disciplines and geographies that are strategic to IBM. Applicants around the world can apply for up to $40,000 a year to support their research.

The 2015 awards were given to universities in multiple states and countries for projects involving analytics/big data, cloud, cognitive computing, core technologies, the “Internet of Things”, mobile/social and smarter cities.

Other SJSU faculty received competitive awards in the Smarter Planet/Cities category. Louis Freund received one for the Innovation Center while Stephen Kwan received one for smart service system design.
