Governor Newsom Announces Portal to Help Parents Working in Essential Fields Find Licensed Childcare

Governor Newsom Has Announced a new resource to help parents working in essential fields find safe and licensed childcare.

The new California Childcare Portal has been created to help families working in essential fields (such as health care, police, postal services, grocery, and emergency services) find licensed childcare in their area during the COVID-19 pandemic. The site is easy to use by just typing in a zip code for a result of childcare centers and homes that are currently open, their capacity, licensing history, and other useful information for choosing care.

CHRS Recruiting Training Update

Training courses for CHRS Recruiting were originally scheduled to begin this month. However, due to a shift in the overall timeline of the project, the training will now begin in June. Details are being finalized and an announcement is forthcoming.

If you previously registered for a training session, you will be contacted and given first priority to move to one of the new dates. At this time, we are planning to deliver all training remotely via Zoom. We also plan to record a session of each course and make them available online.

Your patience is appreciated as we work through these changes. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email us at

Online Training to Support Remote Working

The majority of employees on campus have transitioned to a remote work space and are adapting to a temporary telecommuting lifestyle. We are pleased to announce several optional online training opportunities through CSULearn and LinkedIn Learning to assist you while working from home. Details on the various course offerings are below.

New CSULearn Courses

Several new learning bundles have been released by the Chancellor’s Office that are available for all employees. These courses are optional and can be reached from the CSULearn Library, under CSU’s Professional Development. Course topics include:

  • Communication
  • Mindful Meeting Exercises
  • Student Employees (courses designed for our student workers)
  • Work-Life Balance

CHRS Recruiting Update

CHRS Recruiting Image

You may have seen several emails in the past few months regarding CHRS Recruiting, the new tool for faculty and staff recruitments. Staff members in University Personnel, along with a number of other employees on campus, have been working on implementing this new system since December 2019 with the anticipated go-live later this year. As we move forward we wanted to provide a few updates.

First, this new tool will be used by many employees on campus but not necessarily everyone. Those most impacted are:

    • Individuals who initiate and support recruitments – typically department/college administrative staff, department chairs and/or managers
    • Search committee chairs and committee members of tenure-track and temporary faculty recruitments, as well as staff and MPP recruitments
    • Hiring managers

Second, a message went out in March announcing an overview session for CHRS Recruiting as well as numerous training sessions. Unfortunately, due to current events, the April 15th overview session has been cancelled. Once more is known about the coming weeks and months, it will be rescheduled either in-person or remotely via Zoom.

You may still register for the training sessions announced in the prior message but there is a possibility that some of the dates will change. We are also exploring how to remotely deliver these training sessions. The current schedule of classes can be viewed in SJSU @ Work – Click Search by Course Number, enter “CHRS”, then click Search.

The previously announced Change Management for Managers course on April 7th was cancelled and will be rescheduled at a later date.

Finally, our plan is to continue moving forward with the implementation of this new tool and get you the training and support you need. We will adjust our timeline as needed while continuing to adapt to the changing environment around us.

We appreciate your patience and flexibility and will update you regularly as we move forward. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our CHRS Recruiting team at
