In a duel between two of the top pitchers in the Western Athletic Conference, San Jose State’s Blake McFarland shutout Mike Jefferson and the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs 4-0 on Sunday in Municipal Stadium.

The win improves the Spartans record to 26-15 overall, 6-6 in WAC play.  Louisiana Tech falls to 19-21 overall and 4-8 in conference action.  San Jose State takes three-of-four games in the series.

McFarland, who runs his record to 5-2, tossed his first complete game of the year and the first shutout of his Spartans career.  He scattered five hits and tied a career high with nine strike outs.  He did not allow more than one hit in any inning and just twice had runners move into scoring position.

His only real threats came in the fourth when McFarland loaded the bases with two outs, but got a fly out to end the threat.  In the seventh, Louisiana Tech had runners on first and second with two outs and McFarland induced a groundout to end the inning.
