  1. This is a good book worth considering for the CRP. When a man volunteers to tutor in an adult literacy program he finds the experience rewarding. It also showcases the important work being done by volunteers. The book itself is a quick, engaging read (chapters are short).

  2. Of the four books I have reviewed for the CRP I rate this as my top choice. It is a quick read (197 pages of relatively large type) and contains numerous themes we could build on. The topic of literacy is an important one. We could engage the College of Education and the Partners in Reading (PAR) program at the Public Library. As Gina mentioned, the theme of the rewards (and challenges) of volunteering would be good to focus on and we could likely engage CommUniverCity in at least one event. They have several projects that fit right in with this: Accelerating 3rd Grade Literacy and Writing Partners. I hope we might be able to engage the Accessible Education Center, the Library, and the College of Education on themes related to disabilities. The Literacy Across the Curriculum for an Equitable Society (LACES) program in the Elementary Education program is all about literacy and the Child and Adolescent Development Department covers literacy in their curriculum.
