Cal State plan: Remedial courses before freshman year

This week, the CSU Board of Trustees (which still does not have a faculty representative) approved the Early Start policy – this would require incoming freshman to complete some of their remedial course work in the summer before they matriculate. Early Start, unlike the Summer Bridge program, would be self-supporting, i.e. students, not the state, would pay for the cost of the program.

Departing Chairman of the CSU Board of Trustees, Jeff Bleich, has written a nice opinion piece about California higher education. You can find it here: . Unfortunately, this strong advocate for the CSU was just confirmed as the new Ambassador to Australia, so he will no longer be chairing the BoT.
