Dr. Gus Lease taught music at SJSU for 66 years, and was a professor who enjoyed success conducting university and community choral groups, teaching voice, music education courses, and his immensely popular music appreciation courses. Administratively, he served several terms as director of the School of Music and Dance, and also served many years as a board member of the California Faculty Association, and as a long-time president of the SJSU chapter of the national scholastic honor society Phi Kappa Phi. Throughout his career, Gus—one of the most recognized figures on campus—was renowned for his singing at university, athletic, and professional events. Gus is remembered for his charisma, service, and grit! Dr. Lease passed away in September 2016.
