Justin Allegri, sports director for student radio station KSJS 90.5 FM, placed 16th in the nation in a competition for young people in his field sponsored by the Sportscasters Talent Agency of America.
“It’s a wonderful accomplishment and he is on his way to joining San Jose State graduates like Pat Hughes, the Chicago Cubs radio play-by-play broadcaster, and Hal Ramey, former University of Oregon and San Jose State sports play-by-play broadcaster,” said Lawrence Fan, SJSU’s sports information director.
Allegri has been broadcasting for SJSU for three years. He graduated last spring with a bachelor’s degree in radio, TV and film, with a minor in broadcast journalism. Now a graduate student in sports management, he specifically thanked assistant athletic directors Michael Beaubien and Michael Chisholm for their support.
“My first broadcast was an SJSU baseball game in the spring of 2009,” he said. “Since then I have done play-by-play for select women’s basketball, volleyball, football and baseball games. In addition to those, I also broadcast every home and road game for the club ice hockey team and do color commentary during men’s basketball home games.
“Broadcasting sports is my passion. I love every chance I get to work with SJSU athletics, and know that without the opportunities they and KSJS give me, I would not have received this recognition. “
