Hear the SJSU Concert Choir and Chamber Singers 7:30 p.m. May 7 at Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph in downtown San Jose.

Here is San Jose Mercury News classical music writer Richard Scheinin’s enticing event description, published in the newspaper’s Entertainment Section May 5:

“Choir conductor Charlene Archibeque is a nationally renowned pedagogue and a local icon, having trained fine choruses at San Jose State University for several decades. She’s about to step down from her latest post, and her parting shot is a delicious looking program at Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph in downtown San Jose. Archibeque will lead the San Jose State University Concert Choir and Chamber Singers in a program that should take full advantage of the cathedral’s reverberant acoustics, ranging through works from Scarlatti, Biebl, Mendelssohn, Bruckner, Vaughan Williams, Stanford, Britten, Rachmanioff, as well as American spirituals and much else. 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph, 80 S. Market St., San Jose. Tickets: $10-$25 ($50 for patron tickets); 408-924-4332, or at the door.”
