Industrial Design

“I’ve always loved to make things.”

As a kid with a speech impairment, working “hands-on” with crafts and art projects in school was Dean’s Scholar Ng’s way of communicating, he says. “Since my verbal skills were not up to par, making and designing was essentially my way of problem solving.” His high school digital arts teacher steered him toward an industrial design major at SJSU, and he’s taken to a curriculum he calls “rigorous” with gusto. “With industrial design, I see an opportunity to incorporate my interest in art with the practicality for solving real-world problems,” he says. “Now I can’t imagine majoring in anything else.”
