“I don’t think anybody likes war.”

U.S. Marine Corps veteran Scott spent four years in the military, deployed twice to Iraq with his infantry unit. Transitioning from military service to student life is “a lot like feeling your way around in the dark,” he says. Do you have PTSD? Are you crazy? his classmates wonder. “How do I respond to that?” he asks. Scott doesn’t own a television. (Too distracting.) He doesn’t have a Facebook page. He’s immune to “Bieber fever.” He’s still on a mission—just a different kind of mission. “If a veteran is in school,” Scott says, “he or she means business.”
