Graduate Programs in Math/Applied Math

Math majors: Come to a talk discussing graduate programs (Masters and PhD) in math/applied math at UC Merced and enjoy some free pizza besides. Mayya Tokman will give a talk and answer any questions about the graduate programs at UC Merced on Thurs. Oct. 29 from 12-1:15 in MH 322.

TITLE: Life as a Graduate Student at UC Merced
SPEAKER: Mayya Tokman, Associate Professor of Applied Mathematics, UC Merced
ABSTRACT:
In this presentation I will describe and answer questions about the graduate program in applied mathematics at University of California, Merced. The applied mathematics group at UC Merced offers Ph.D. and MS programs that provide students with rigorous training and skills to help them succeed in careers in academia, industry, and government. The faculty research is focused on development and application of analytical and computational tools for solving real-world problems. I will talk about what the graduate students lives are like in our program and provide an overview of the research going on in our group. As examples of possible research students engage in I will briefly describe projects in my group that include development of new numerical methods and mathematical modeling of behavior of biological cells under the influence of electric fields.
