Kinesiology Summer Internships 2015

Hello KIN Majors,

This information pertains to anyone planning to do a summer internship (198, 285) or fieldwork course (170D, 280).  You can register for 1, 2, or 3 units this summer.  All paperwork must be in by 4pm Monday May 11th.

The internship page on the KIN website contains the information you need regarding deadlines, forms, syllabi and general information:  http://www.sjsu.edu/kinesiology/internships/

Please read through that information and pay particular attention to the University – Organization Agreement (UOA) section.  If the site for your internship/fieldwork is off campus you will need to turn in a UOA (if one does not already exist) in addition to your KIN registration forms.

The original UOC form used this academic year has been retired and replaced with a UOA form.  Shorter/simpler form.  At the URL above you’ll find a link to the UOA and a link to the sites where we have already obtained contracts/agreements which means you need not duplicate that work – the agreements cover a 5-year period.  If your site is not listed there, but you or your site supervisor think there is an agreement in place, check with me.

If you do need to get a UOA, our best results have come through when you email the UOA (which includes instructions) to the person at the community site who has signature authority for formal contracts.  Check to see who that is by asking the person who will be your site supervisor – it might be someone other than the person who will supervise your work at the site.

Once you have the signed hard copy of the contract (if needed) please put it together with your KIN forms.  Bring all forms to the KIN main office (YUH 105) and ask the staff to put them in Dr. Shifflett’s mail box.  Dr. Shifflett will review and assuming all information complete and correct.

2015 Kinesiology Convocation Information

The Department of Kinesiology Convocation will be held the evening before Commencement, on Friday May 22, from 4:00-6:00 PM on the South Tower Lawn. Everyone is warmly invited, especially those who graduated in December 2014 and those who will be graduating in May and August 2015 so that we can acknowledge you for your hard work. This is for masters and bachelors degree students, their families, friends, and faculty and staff. Appetizers will be served from 4 PM and the ceremony will start at 4:30 PM.

Tickets will go on sale from Wednesday, March 18 until the cut-off date of Friday May 1 in YUH 105. Everyone who attends (except those under 3 years of age), including those graduating, will need to buy a ticket! Tickets cost $15 each and there is no limit on how many you may purchase. Please note: if you wish to buy a sash/stole (see below) the cut off date is earlier (April 15), so the company can make them.

Payment may ONLY be by check (no cash, no credit/debit cards) and checks should be made out to “Department of Kinesiology” Money taken in is used exclusively to fund the event: food, chair rental, A/V, flowers, program printing, etc. Sash and event costs may be paid for in the same check.

At the time of ticket purchase, you will be asked to complete a form stating your name as you wish it to appear in the program, and your emphasis area.

You may also opt to buy an “electric blue” Kinesiology sash/stole, similar to that pictured in the attachments to this email. Cost is $26 and you will need to tell us whether you want yours to state 2014 or 2015. Cut off date for sash orders is April 15 (tax day!!) (Athletic Training students may be organizing buying their own sashes that state “Athletic Training” instead of “Kinesiology.” These will likely cost extra because of an additional set up charge. Please contact Katie Elston if you would like to order an AT sash. Kinesiology sashes will be picked up by those who ordered them in mid May, from YUH 105.

If you have questions, please ask those selling tickets in YUH 105. Last year, we had approximately 1350 at the event, making it about the largest such event on campus. Hope to see you there!

And feel free to forward this to any 2014 grads you know who may wish to attend, thanks.
