Debut of the SJSU – Kazuki Fukuda-Abe Endowed Lecture Series in Contemporary Japanese Arts

It is my pleasure to announce the Thursday, March 6 debut of the SJSU – Kazuki Fukuda-Abe Endowed Lecture Series in Contemporary Japanese Arts.

The debut lecture and reception will be held 6.00 to 8.00pm in Room 225/229 of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library.

Dr. Mika Yoshitake of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden will present “Phases of Nothingness: Mono-Ha’s Discursive Origins and Contemporary Impact.”  Mika will discuss the important postwar art movement of Mono-ha, also known as the ‘School of Things,’ and share with us its ongoing effects on Contemporary Japanese art.  The Fukuda Lecture is generously sponsored by Kimiko Fukuda. Additional support provided by Dean Vollendorf of the College of Humanities & the Arts, and the Departments of Art and Art History, Humanities, and World Languages and Literatures. The lecture is free and open to the public.  For more information, email Beverly Grindstaff at <beverly.grindstaff@sjsu.edu> or see: <arth.sjsu.edu>
