Drone Array Team Introduction

The Drone Array team with EPICS at SJSU is excited to work on developing a drone show for a future structure here in San Jose. The community partner for this project is the San Jose Light Tower Corporation, whom aim to create an iconic structure for the city. The Light Tower Corporation wants to pay respect to the region’s history and exhibit themes of collaboration, internal relations, and innovation. This is where the project comes into the picture.

The project’s goal is to prove that programmable drone can detach from the structure and fly in coordinated dances and then reattach to the structure. Obviously, the project is building off of the theme of innovation, inspired by drone dances, like those done by Intel, and adapting it to live on a unique structure in San Jose. This iteration is going to focus on controlling a number of drones in the air and developing a scalable method for many more drones than are intended to be used in this project.

This project acts as a senior design project for two members of the four-man team. Both Sun Garcia and Christopher Kennedy are Mechanical Engineering seniors looking to meet a graduation requirement while giving back to the community with work on this exciting project. They will be assisted on the project by Douglas James and Nabil Shaheen, both coming from the Computer Engineering department. The combination of these skills should give us a good lead on this project.
