Kudos to Professor Kathy Kahn who recently received the Valerie Alexander Super-Parent Award from Oakland Parents Together, a nonprofit organization that provides educational support to parents and children in Oakland Public Schools. Professor Kahn received this award in recognition of her contributions to the Oakland arts and education community. Her nomination cites her extraordinary leadership of several groups including: the Skyline High PTSA Performing Arts Committee, the Steering Committee for the Alameda County Alliance for Arts Learning Leadership, the Oakland Schools Arts Task Force, and the Alameda County Office of Education. Professor Kahn has received numerous awards from the Oakland Unified School District, and this lifetime achievement award is in recognition of her work.
Her nomination also notes Professor Kahn’s work as publicist, marketer and photographer for Oakland’s Woodminster Summer Musicals, a 47-year-old nonprofit organization that presents Broadway-style musicals to more than 20,000 audience members each summer and introduces local children to live theater through its Kids Come Free program.
Congratulations to Professor Kahn for this well-deserved award in recognition of her remarkable service to Bay Area education!
