Health Science student gets nod as outstanding senior

Isra Ahmad, a graduate in the College of Applied Sciences and Arts’ Health Science and Recreation department at San José State University, is one of two 2014 Outstanding Graduating Seniors. She will be recognized at commencement on May 24 by President Mohammad Qayoumi, along with the other Outstanding Graduating Senior and two students receiving Outstanding Thesis awards.

Ahmad graduated in December 2013, with a grade point average of 3.805, according to an SJSU blog post. During her tenure as a student at SJSU, she was involved with advocating for tobacco prevention through SJSU Cough (Campuses Organized and United for Good Health) and also volunteered at Second Harvest Food Bank to educate mothers about healthy food choices.

Ahmad is planning to pursue a master’s in public health with a concentration in epidemiology and biostatistics at the University of California, Berkeley in the fall.
